Work in Progress: Soho, London
These images are the beginnings of what will be a developing series of works documenting the streets of Soho, London during the pandemic. Images of these businesses currently boarded up (some of which are iconic and historically important to the area) show them awaiting the relaxing of restrictions to slow or halt the spread of the Covid19 virus. However, beyond this current context they may also prefigure the effects produced by local regeneration, gentrification, and the economic struggles for smaller independent businesses to survive. What of the will of local and national government to mitigate against economic pressures and financial speculation that may cause such businesses of this scale to be lost forever, what will the future hold for the life behind these boarded up facades?
